Musical Theatre Audition Workshop

Gateway Academy Musical Theatre audition

Take the fear out of auditions and land that role! Whether you are looking to audition for our upcoming holiday musical or a musical theatre program of your dreams, we are here to help! This workshop is open to all levels.

Taught by industry professional artists, the Musical Theatre audition workshop includes:

  • Monologue coaching
  • How to do a group dance-call
  • Song coaching
  • An informative session on audition etiquette, expectations, and how to prepare for an audition in the last half hour of the workshop (Participants’ parents/guardians/support people are encouraged to attend this portion of the workshop)

After this workshop, students will:

  • Have a clearer understanding of the audition process
  • Know how to prepare for auditions
  • Gain the confidence to succeed in auditions whether it’s for a school program or a musical

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Class Size:

  • Maximum of 10 students
  • Space is limited as students will receive personalized attention and guidance from our experienced instructors.

Preparation:

  • 16 bars of a song (from a musical – stage show or on-screen) either to be sung with an accompanist (piano) or a capella; no Karaoke tracks
  • A monologue or poem. Max length 2 minutes. Must be off-book (no text in hand) – character/subject should be appropriate for your age (i.e. a character around your age)

What to wear:

  • Layers (tank top, t-shirt, sweatshirt)
  • Sweats/dance pants/tights
  • Dance shoes or running shoes you can dance in

What to bring:

  • Sheet music, single-sided in a binder
  • A copy of your monologue or poem
  • Notebook and writing utensils
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Recording device (phone, camera)
