Welcome to Arts While Apart, Gateway Theatre’s online talk show! Hosted by Barbara Tomasic, Gateway Theatre’s Director of Artistic Programs, this show is a way for us to share little-known information about our past collaborators, celebrate artists in our community, and connect with you while our doors are closed. We hope you will have as much fun watching Arts While Apart as we had while filming it.

Arts While Apart Featuring Jasmine Chen

Who is Jasmine Chen? An actor, writer, director, Artistic and Community Producer here at Gateway—and that’s only the half of it. Join Barbara and Jasmine as they explore their commonalities within and beyond the creative: family, language, immigration, and so much more.

Arts While Apart Featuring Oliver Castillo

“My goal is to not glue my fingers together.” Join Barbara Tomasic as she discovers the joy of puppet making with Oliver Castillo: our Joseph from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (2019), an incredibly talented puppeteer, and one of Barbara’s favourite people (don’t tell anyone else).

Arts While Apart Featuring Jason Sakaki and Tiana Jung

Friends who bubble together, sing together. Long before Jason Sakaki was making it big in Vancouver’s theatre scene and Tiana Jung was landing Broadway auditions in New York, there was "The King and I" (2013). Take a trip down memory lane with Barbara, Jason and Tiana to hear a heartfelt duet, get a glimpse of life behind our curtains, and explore the origins of the careers and friendship of these young theatre artists.
